Scarecrow sprays the guard with his fear toxin, causing the man to hallucinate about spiders attacking him. After getting into the vault, Scarecrow orders his men to grab to grab enough money for them to carry and that they will burn the rest, as his primary goal is revenge.

Batman soon arrives and knocks one of the henchman unconscious. While the other goon jumps on top of Batman, Scarecrow shoots a syringe at Batman that is full of his fear toxin. As the vault errupts in flames, Scarecrow is able to escape as Batman collapses on the floor. He begins to see visions of his Thomas Wayne, his father. He tells Bruce that he is ashamed of him and that he has disgraced the Wayne name. Batman is able to fight through these visions and escape out of the bank just as the Gotham Police arrive.

Elsewhere, Scarecrow is outraged that Batman was able to put out the fire at the bank. He explains to his henchman that he hates the University so much because of his history there as a Professor. At the time, he was obsessed with fear and its effects on people. As Jonathan Crane, he would perform tests on human subjects, and this led to Dr Long calling him a psycho and tossing him out of the University. Meanwhile, in the Batcave, Bruce Wayne struggles to battle the effects of the toxin as he has his batcomputer analyze a piece of the Scarecrow's mask that he ripped off.

Later on, Scarecrow and his men unleash fear toxin in another fundraiser event. While the people there are panicking, they capture Dr Long and lead him out of the building. Batman arrives and attempts to capture Scarecrow, but the toxin causes the people at the fundraiser to imagine Batman as a giant Bat and they begin attacking him. As Scarecrow escapes aboard a giant blimp, Batman is able to follow and grabs the gas hose, climbing aboard. While fighting one of the henchman, bullets are fired into the blimp, causing it to vere ofcourse. Batman makes his way inside of the blimp where Scarecrow and his remaining goon is. Scarecrow is able to escape using a mini-plane attached to the bottom of the blimp. Batman is able to grab Dr King and jumps out of the blimp just as it crashes into a building and explodes.

Inside of his Batmobile, his computer tells Batman that the cloth from Scarecrow's mask was manufactured at Crane Chemicals, a building owned by Jonathan Crane. Batman heads to the building and is able to use Scarecrow's own fear toxin against him, causing him to see a frightening creature in his head. Batman captures Scarecrow and leaves him for Commissioner Gordon and Harvey Bullock.
