Plot

Gameplay

There have already been comparisons made to The Chronicles of Riddick: Escape From Butcher's Bay when discussing the gameplay found in Batman: Arkham Asylum. Some of the main reasons for this are a reliance on a lot of close quarters combat, along with a heavy dose of stealth movement throughout the game. The gritty and dark atmosphere has drawn comparisons to Bioshock, one of the better games of 2007.

There have been a handful of villains, including The Joker, Harley Quinn, Killer Croc, Scarecrow, Bane and Zsasz. Exploration will take place within Arkham Asylum, the large prison facility. Throughout the game, Batman will be in direct contact with Oracle, who will offer advice and tips at certain junctures.

Combat

The fighting in the game is rather simplistic, as Batman's hand to hand moves are restricted to a couple buttons. One of them will be used to attack, and the other to stun opponents with a swirl of Batman's cape. Combos can be chained together though to earn bonus rewards at the end of a fight. Once having the opportunity to defeat the final enemy of a group, a "Take-Down" maneauver becomes available where Batman slams his fist down upon the enemy for a knockout blow.

While also having an unlimited number of batarangs at his disposal, Batman can use his cape as a hang-glider as he swoops down upon enemies to deliver a Glide-Kick, which is an extremely effective move. This tactic is good to use when stalking an enemy and then attacking them from above. Successfully fighting off groups of enemies will require stealth and picking off inmates one by one.

Detective Work

Batman is able to unlock different types of vision modes throughout the game that help him search for different enemies and aids him against a group of badguys. For instance; X-Ray vision allows Batman to see how many enemies are in a room and what type of weapons hey are carrying with them. Many of the visions will be used during Investigation Mode, which lets Batman track down individuals. An early mission requires Batman to go after a drunk guard, and this is done by following the alcohol molecules in the air.
